Acne and Oily Skin
Acne or oily skin are common concerns that often go together, significantly impacting one’s self-esteem and overall skin health. Oily skin arises from overactive sebaceous glands, which produce excess sebum. When produced in excess, sebum can clog pores, creating an ideal environment for acne-causing bacteria to thrive. This can lead to various forms of acne, including whiteheads, blackheads and painful cysts.
Acne primarily occurs when hair follicles become clogged with oil and dead skin cells, leading to inflammation and bacterial growth.
Hormonal changes, especially during puberty, menstruation and pregnancy, are significant contributors to acne, as they can stimulate the sebaceous glands to produce more oil. And, whilst teenagers are commonly affected, sadly it can affect anyone; male, female, young and old.
Additionally, genetics, diet and stress can exacerbate the condition.
While acne can be persistent and sometimes resistant to treatment, a comprehensive approach tailored to an individual’s skin type and severity of the condition can significantly reduce outbreaks and improve skin appearance.
