Rosacea
Rosacea is a Chronic Inflammatory Skin Condition and this state of stress of the skin causes redness and vascularity. It is characterized by facial redness, visible blood vessels, and often small, red, pus-filled bumps. It typically affects the central part of the face, including the cheeks, nose, forehead and chin. The exact cause of rosacea is unknown, but it is believed to result from a combination of genetic and environmental factors.
There are two main areas to concentrate on when treating Rosacea:
⦁ Restore the skin barrier
⦁ Decrease inflammation
Restoring the skin barrier is crucial and gentle skincare is required, reducing the chemical burden on skin.
Ivermectin (on prescription) can also be used to help ease the symptoms.
Once the skin barrier is restored then Active ingredients can slowly be introduced one at a time. For example a Retinoid can help decrease inflammation further, Vitamin C can help improve vascularity, Salicylic acid can decrease inflammation. A Doxycycline preparation- Efracea -again also has anti-inflammatory properties. If you choose to come to the Townhouse Clinic for your Rosacea treatment then we will carefully monitor your treatment journey, with regular follow ups, using our Observ 520x to monitor your redness . As your skin improves we will tweak your routine and advise/prescribe the best products.
As you can tell- there’s a recurring theme with Rosacea- decreasing inflammation. All the above will help but if you decide to try anything then introduce it slowly so you can see how your skin reacts and keep your immune response balanced!
