Acne prone and congested skin
Obagi CLENZIderm M.D Acne Therapeutic System
This 3-step prescription treatment was formulated for acne-prone skin to help treat current acne and prevent future breakouts. With clinically proven ingredients like salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide, this collection of products is specifically formulated to target the bacteria that cause acne, which sit deep in the pores.
With daily use, it can penetrate deep into the skin to reach bacteria in the pores, stop acne in its tracks, and promote a healthy, clear complexion. The system has been proven effective in treating mild to moderate acne. It is also designed to prevent future acne forming, and reduce acne scarring, open pores and oily skin.
The CLENZIderm Cleanser contains the active ingredient: 2% salicylic acid which works by dissolving the build-up of dead skin cells on your skin’s surface that can accumulate over time.
Pore Therapy – a refreshing, pore-refining toner that is also formulated with 2% salicylic acid to help rid pores of dead skin and bacteria, and camomile to soothe irritated skin. This is an essential component of the skincare routine as it preps skin for the final step.
Obagi CLENZIderm M.D Therapeutic Lotion – the moisturising element of the system, and final step, is a lightweight lotion formulated with 5% benzoyl peroxide (BPO) to assist in the clearing of acne. Its light texture helps prevent clogged pores, and the addition of squalane deeply nourishes skin to prevent dryness.

Medical grade vitamin A
It’s topical application was first introduced in dermatology in the 1960s, and it has been widely recognised in skincare as an effective treatment for acne (and also anti-ageing).
It is primarily prescribed as an acne treatment as it helps keep pores free from impurities, reduces inflammation, prevents follicles from clogging and exfoliates skin.
Retinol is the natural form of vitamin A and is a mild version that rarely irritates sensitive skin.
Medical grade vitamin A works by irritating the skin as it speeds up the life cycle of skin cells, making them divide and die faster and allowing newer, healthier cells to replace them.
Dr Lucy and Dr Rebecca can both prescribe it if they feel it’s appropriate, but a consultation is required first.
There are 3 different percentages of the vitamin A in the Obagi Medical range that can be prescribed:

⦁ 0.1% Cream
⦁ 0.025% Cream
⦁ 0.05% Gel
(gel formulation- slightly gentler than cream)
As these are prescription-only products and require a professional to recommend, the correct percentage will depend on the severity of acne, skin type and other factors.

How It Works
Exfoliating Cleanser: Works to help clear clogged pores that can cause dull, dry, uneven skin. Cleanser works mechanically and chemically to thoroughly clean skin, revealing a soft, smooth, and radiant complexion.
Retinol 0.5%: This entrapped form of retinol is gradually released. It refines the complexion and smoothes the appearance of uneven skin texture for clearer-looking skin with minimal irritation.
Hydrafactor Broad Spectrum SPF30: A dual-function moisturiser with soothing ingredients and broad-spectrum protection to help prevent skin damage caused by UVA/UVB rays.

There are two Obagi-C® Systems and at The Townhouse Clinic we stock the prescription range. Unlike the readily available non-prescription range, our range contains the prescription only ingredient- 4% Hydroquinone, which reduces the appearance of hyperpigmentation and age spots, combined with 10% L-ascorbic acid (Vitamin C)—the only topical antioxidant proven to stimulate collagen synthesis and protect your skin by minimising future skin cell damage.

What will the Obagi-C® Systems do for my skin?
Prescription-strength 4% Hydroquinone plus 10% L-ascorbic acid has proven aesthetic advantages:
